Fifty Five Years of MAFVA!
The Miniature AFV Association, or MAFVA, was formed in 1965 as a group of like-minded people with a common interest in military vehicles and scale models.
The original members were fairly well spread out so to facilitate sharing of information Tankette was born, initially pumped out on a Roneo printing machine, then upgrading to ‘proper’ printing.
The plans appearing in Tankette attracted a growing number of modellers, and where a few where geographically
close a branch would spring up.
As a means of meeting up MAFVA would participate at model shows until it was decided to put on our own MAFVA Nationals each year. Along the way we have built up a network of members world-wide, continue with Tankette that is now A4 and with colour, a website www.mafva.org , a forum and a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/478175569040094/ .
Members can ask questions or discuss matters relating to their projects, and consult the research service for that elusive piece of information. They can also check back through the index of back issues of Tankette from the past 55 years, that’s 330 magazines!
Members are also entitled to discounts offered by a variety of kit manufacturers and suppliers. Tankette is filled with articles covering the history of AFVs, softskins and artillery, scale plans, modelling and photographs, plus new kit news and book reviews. For full details of joining MAFVA visit the www.mafva.org where you can choose between a standard membership (UK: £18.00, Europe: £26.00, Rest of World: £35.00) receiving six magazines per year, or the more economical digital subscription which is a modest £16.00 world-wide.
